Which Microsoft Cloud VDI Solution Should You Use?

Are you looking for a cloud-based solution to enable remote work and collaboration for your employees? Are you not sure which Microsoft service would provide the best solution for your Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) needs?

Microsoft provides three different solutions that while they provide similar capabilities, they all serve different use cases.

Azure Virtual Desktop provides the most flexibility to create and manage virtual desktops (dedicated and multi-session) and apps on Azure. With AVD, you can also scale up or down your resources as needed and pay only for what you use. AVD supports various scenarios, such as remote work, hybrid work, Windows 10 migration, and legacy app modernization.

Windows 365 is another Microsoft service that allows you to create and access cloud-based virtual desktops and apps from any device. Windows 365 differs from Azure Virtual Desktop in that it offers a simplified and fixed-price model, where you can choose from predefined plans based on your performance and storage needs. Windows 365 is ideal for small and medium-sized businesses that want a turnkey solution for remote work without managing complex infrastructure or licensing.

Azure Dev Box is a service that uses Windows 365 to host the virtual desktop but targets developer workloads and productivity with pre-installed tools and frameworks for your preferred programming language. Azure Dev Box enables you to code, build, debug, and test your applications from any device, without installing or maintaining any software on your local machine. Azure Dev Box also integrates with GitHub, Visual Studio Code, and other popular tools, making it easy to collaborate and deploy your code to Azure. Azure Dev Box is a great option for developers who want a consistent and secure development environment that can be accessed from anywhere.
